Sticks & Bones * About Us
Charity Support
Riding Club
The purpose of our club is
to provide assistance to the smaller "local" charities in our
communities while enjoying the sport of recreational motorcycling and the
benifits of the brotherhood that has long been a part of the motorcycle
culture. Many of the "individuals" in our communities are overlooked
by the larger charity organizations that many clubs support. With due respect
to all clubs that support charities sometimes "the forest can't be seen
for the trees". We hopefully can fill in the gaps. That's not to say that
we aren't interested in supporting some of the larger local charity rides but
our main interest is helping individuals or families in our community.
We are NOT a
"charitable organization", we are NOT a "MOTORCYCLE CLUB"
We are a "RIDING CLUB" that wishes to
give back something to our communities when we can do so in the SUPPORT of
local charities. We are also a social club that enjoys motorcycle related
events or activities organized by other clubs or persons involved in the
motorcycle community.
Contributions do not always
need to be in a monetary form and we encourage our
members to perform labour
for the elderly or physical handicapped to provide groomed lawns, painted
fences, shoveled walkways or whatever we can do to help restore a sense of
pride and function to the residents of the property that can no longer
financially or physically handle the required maintainance or repair.
*We respect and honor: Our
Families, Our Club Brothers and Sisters, All Colors and
affiliations, Humanity
itself.
*We have no secret
procedures or agendas and are not the least bit interested in
"Control" over any territories.
Our main source of raising monetary contributions to charity is through
the cost
of the "one time,
lifetime membership fee". A major portion of membership fees
(funds remaining after the
cost involved to supply "On Loan" club regalia to new members)
will be redirected to the
community charity of each chapter(s) choice as members are added to chapters.
Chapters are small and
limited to "communities" rather than "regions or
districts".
*Whats with the
"Sticks & Bones" portion of the club logo? The "Sticks"
is in reference to those members that join the club and "Stick with the
intended purpose of the club" and provide continued loyalty to the club
and contribute to the community through volunteer charity support. The "Bones"
are in reference to those members that join our club but do not participate in
club events or charities for reasons of their own, HOWEVER they have already
contributed to charitable needs in the community through their membership fee.
Some communities can take all the "Bones" we can throw at them!
As for the skull and
crossbones logo on our patch ?.........
It's certainly not
intended to intimidate or offend anyone.... it actually has a true meaning
regarding the concept and purpose of our club as explained in the following
paragraph.
The history of the
skull and bones design is much, much older than our use of it as our club logo.
The design itself dates back to the Puritanical period in history (about 1690
A.D.) In early carvings on tombstones the skull is often grinning, an
indication that death is the release from all earthly troubles and the passing
on to a better place. The skull was a symbol of good luck in past times and
hopefully will bring us good luck in our present and future endeavours to help
our communities and each other.
"Our use of the
skull and bones logo is to remind all members of our own mortality and that
life is really just a blink of an eye". " It's a visual reminder to
each other that we really need to do something good for others while we're on this
ride called life".
The Sticks &
Bones Charity Support Riding Club motto is:
"The
purpose of life is to live a life of purpose"
